This December the IVCCD Orpheum Theater Center brings you "INSTANT COMEDYJust Add Spam!" a live, on stage improvisational comedy show directed by Tom LaVille.
This 'improv' comedy event is set up like the former television show, "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"
"In order to offer new challenges to our improvisational comedy troupe, I thought it would be fun to try doing the performance in the 'round' at the Orpheum," said Tom LaVille, retired teacher and drama director at Marshalltown High School. "It will offer a lot of opportunities and a lot of challenges, but that's what makes it fun." LaVille taught English, Literature and Drama classes for 20 years at MHS. As drama director, he oversaw numerous productions, including The Sound of Music, The Music Man, and Oklahoma!
The show is at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 30-31 in the Orpheum black box theater. Performances last about 90 minutes. Tickets are just $5. Call 641-844-5919 for tickets.
"We like to do it on New Year's Eve because we feel it's great family-friendly entertainment," said Tom LaVille. "It's a place to bring your kids and enjoy a nice, fun night together. The kids are always excited to get on stage and get involved in the performance."
"Improv" workshops will be held at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 26-29 at the Orpheum Black Box Theater. Entrance for the troupe will be on the North (back side) of the Orpheum in the alley. The door is marked "Stage Door." Those interested can sign up at the Orpheum Welcome Office, or call 641-844-5919.
"We have a lot of experienced 'improvers' coming back this year and also some new faces as well," said LaVille. "I expect this year to be a fun, exciting new experience for everyone involved."
