Creative Retirement hosts ‘What’s New at the Zoo’

January 9, 2013
Times-Republican

Have a touch of "cabin fever" and want to think about warmer weather and outside activities? Learn all about the new things planned at the Blank Park Zoo when Iowa Valley's Creative Retirement hosts its winter kickoff luncheon, "What's New At The Zoo," from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Jan. 18, at IVCE.

Anne Shimerdla, Director of Zoo Operations and Education for the Blank Park Zoo, Des Moines, will be the featured speaker and will bring five animal "ambassadors" with her, including a baby alligator. Shimerdla's presentation will focus on the mission of the zoo, expansions, new exhibits and guest experiences. Enjoy the winter kick-off luncheon, learn about the zoo and meet some of its animals. After all, the zoo is for all ages. A few Tiger Tots children will join us for the "interactive" part of this presentation with the animals, so it should be fun to watch. The presentation starts at noon, but lunch opens at 11:30 a.m.

Interested persons must be a Creative Retirement member to register for this presentation. Cost of Creative Retirement membership is $10 and allows access to a variety of programs, events and trips through September 2013. For more information or to register, call IVCE at 641-752-4645 and register for course number CRT 1001 003. Cost is $15 and includes lunch.
