SOLON - South Tama County senior Erik Lux can officially start thinking about a repeat championship performance at the Iowa State Wrestling Championships.
Lux won both of his matches Saturday during Class 2A District 6 action and advanced to another state tournament, and will have the chance to repeat as the Class 2A 170-pound champion.
The Trojans also sent two other wrestlers to state as Levi Kaufman (152) and Kolten Smith (160) were both runner-ups at their respective weight classes.
South Tama County placed fourth overall in the team standings with 55 points, edging host Solon by five points.
Mount Vernon claimed the team title with 111 points, while Union Community (99.5) was second and Denver (71.5) took third.
Lux, who will wrestle at Northern Iowa next season, is now 47-0 on the season. He won his first match by fall at 2:53 and then beat Denver's Izaak Schendenhelm, 6-2, in the final.
Kaufman (36-8) went 2-1 on the day at 152. He lost his opening match by fall but then bounced back to take his consolation match 11-6. He was given the chance to wrestleback, and he advanced to state with a pin over Cody Ruden of Mount Vernon.
Smith had a similar path to the state tournament at 160. He earned a pin in Round 1, then lost in the championship match.
Like Kaufman, he was given the opportunity to wrestleback and took advantage of that chance by beating Cole Reiter of Union Community, 5-4.
Jaret Probasco just missed out on a state berth at 106 after he lost in his wrestleback. Kade Steuhm (126) and Kyle Llewellyn (182) both went 0-2 to end their seasons as well.
The Iowa State Wrestling Championships will begin Thursday at Wells Fargo Arena. The Class 2A portion of the tournament will kick off at 7 p.m. with first round and first-round consolation matches.
