Linda Bekemeier, age 71, of Eldora, IA, died on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, IA.
Visitation will be held after 9:00 am prior to the funeral service at the church. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 10:30 am at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora, IA. Linda will be buried at New Providence Cemetery in New Providence, IA. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 1209 12th St., Eldora, IA 50627 or Hardin Eldora Animal Rescue Team (HEART), 27082 255th St., Eldora, Iowa 50627.

Linda Grace Bekemeier was born April 17, 1941, in Eldora, to John A. and Lois M. (White) Bekemeier.
Linda graduated from Eldora High School and Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree in Speech and Language Pathology at the University of Iowa.
Linda started her career in Pottstown, PA, working in the local school system as a speech therapist. In 1984 Linda returned to Eldora. She worked for Farm Services, Inc. for a short time before returning to work as a speech and language pathologist for Area Education Agency 6.
Linda had many interests that involved her love of cats, traveling, golf, playing Bridge, craft and needle work as well as shopping. She was a voracious reader and was well informed on the latest news and trends. In earlier years she went on skiing trips and to the Wimbledon Tennis Tournaments in London. She worked a second job to finance these trips. Linda really enjoyed working with children and had a special rapport with young people.
Linda was an active member of P.E.O. for over 50 years and held offices in the local Chapter. Linda was a faithful member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. She served as Church Clerk for many years and was active in the Women's Fellowship and sang in the church choir. She was active in the restoration of the Eldora Grand Theatre and sang with the Cecilians. She assisted with fundraising for Dorothy's Senior Center and the hospital.
Linda is survived by an uncle and aunt, Abner and Pauline White of New Providence, IA; a nephew, Nathan Bekemeier of Fairhaven, MA, a niece, Kathryn Hanford of Raynham, MA, a nephew, Jonathan Bekemeier of Malden, MA; a grand nephew, Nicholas Hanford of Troy, NY; and a grandniece, Mia Bekemeier of Fairhaven, MA; along with other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother K. Don Bekemeier.
