CEDAR FALLS - The Drake women's basketball team set season-bests for shooting accuracy as the Bulldogs swept Northern Iowa for the first time since 2003-04 with an 82-67 victory over the host Panthers in Saturday's Missouri Valley Conference women's basketball showdown.
Four players scored in double figures for the Bulldogs (9-17, 4-11), who collected their first MVC road win this season after shooting 58 percent from the field and 56.5 percent from 3-point range. Drake's 13 3-pointers were also a season-high.
Kyndal Clark and Mary Pat Specht both shot 4-for-6 from distance, scoring 23 and 15 points respectively for Drake. Ashley Bartow added 16 points and eight rebounds, while Cara Lutes contributed 10 points for the Bulldogs.
"We got great production from the bench today and you need that on the road, especially in a tough conference like ours," said Drake coach Jennie Baranczyk.
Drake lit up the McLeod Center in the first half, getting out to a 48-39 lead after netting 20-of-28 field-goal attempts in the opening 20 minutes. That 71.4 percent shooting included an 8-for-11 success rate from 3-point range.
Jacqui Kalin again led Northern Iowa (12-14, 7-7) with 25 points on 9-of-19 shooting. Hannah Schonhardt added 14 points, and Amber Kirschbaum chipped in nine points, six rebounds and five assists off the bench.
Next up for UNI is a pair of road games. The Panthers go to Evansville Friday night and visit Southern Illinois on March 3.
Drake ends its three-game road trip on March 3 at Creighton.
