A tribute to dad

April 5, 2013
Julie Harvey of Marshalltown is shown reading the poem “Just Do Your Best” written by her father, Gerald J.J. Johnson of Marshalltown as part of a poetry reading event at the Marshalltown Public Library Thursday. Harvey read a second poem by Johnson entitled “Autumn Leaves.” Johnson, who was present for the reading, has written over 1,500 poems, according to Harvey. He is a weekly contributor to the Times-Republican’s Poetry Corner, published each Sunday. Joining Harvey were other poets and library staff.
MPL staff recorded all readings. They will be made available to the public in the near future for listening at the library. The live poetry reading was in conjunction with April as National Poetry Month.
