Youth completing fourth through sixth grade are invited to participate in the Mad Scientist in the Kitchen Day Camp from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 21 at the Quakerdale in New Providence.
Participants will test foods for vitamin C, protein and starch; extract DNA from a banana and make a delicious smoothie; make their own enchilada and tortilla lunch; get moving with fun games; and tour Quakerdale's aquaponics garden and outdoor garden to learn about the science and business of gardening.
This experience is part of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Region 8 4-H Youth Development programming funded in part by PEERS (Partnership for Engineering Educational Resources for Schools) through the governor's STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Scale Up Initiative.
Pre-registration and $25 fee payment are required by June 7. Registration information is available at www.extension.iastate.edu/Hardin/. Questions may be directed to Elise Fiscus, ISU Extension and Outreach AmeriCorps member, at 641-752-1551.
