Man charged with driving while on meth

A 30-year-old Marshalltown man faces several charges after getting involved in a car accident Wednesday afternoon while he was trying to turn into his own driveway.

Joseph Dean Ashby has been charged with child endangerment, operating while intoxicated (meth), driving under suspension, failure to secure a child and driving without insurance.

The Marshalltown Police Department indicated Ashby was transporting his 5-year-old daughter without a car seat when the accident occurred at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday on East Lincoln Street.

The accident occurred when another motorist Hattie Gersema, 56, of Marshalltown, pulled around Ashby thinking he was parking on the side of the road just as he was turning left into his driveway.

Gersema was cited for unsafe passing and driving without insurance.

Ashby made his initial court appearance Thursday with a preliminary hearing set for 1 p.m. May 28.

Incidents

On Saturday, Steffanie Ann Kyle, of Gilman, reported the theft of a Coleman generator and eight gallons of siphoned gas from a vehicle while parked at her residence. Estimated value of loss was $375.

Arrests

On May 2, Zane Aaron Dolash, 717 N. Fifth St. Lot #26, was arrested on two warrants for violation of pre-trial release.

On May 2, Ward Matthew Duffy, 209 S. Fourth Ave. Apt. #1, was arrested on a warrant for pre-trial revocation.

On May 2, April Marie Brubaker, 304 Bromley St. Apt. #2, was arrested on a warrant for parole violation.

On May 2, Michael Allen Witte, of State Center, was arrested on a warrant charging him with parole violation.

On May 1, Julie Irene Stone, Bounton, was arrested for theft-third degree.

Accidents

On May 3, a minivan driven by Steven Dale Salasek, 2701 Underwood Ave., was traveling on Highway 30 when it left the traveled portion of the roadway and entered the south ditch where it struck a sign post belonging to the Iowa Department of Transportation. The road surface was covered with slush and snow. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Salasek minivan was estimated at $2,000 while the sign post received an estimated $1,000 in damage.

On May 2, a vehicle driven by Carol Ann Dvorak, of Garwin, was eastbound on East Main Street Road when it struck a deer that entered the traveled portion of the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Dvorak vehicle was estimated at $2,500.

On May 2, a vehicle driven by Tasha Marie Johnson, of Baxter, was northbound on Hart Avenue when, due to snow and sleet, it went out of control, entered the east ditch and rolled onto its side. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Johnson vehicle was estimated at $5,000.

On May 2, a pickup pulling a trailer driven by Alex A. Siedlecki, of Centerville, was eastbound on Marshalltown Boulevard when, due to the weather conditions of rain, snow and sleet, it went out of control, struck the north guardrail on a railroad overpass and jack-knifed, detaching the trailer which came to rest on the south embankment. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Siedlecki pickup was estimated at $5,000 while the trailer receive an estimated $4,000 in damage.

Arrests

On Saturday, Steven Zea, age 43, of New Hartford, was arrested in Dike for public intoxication-first offense. He was released on promise to appear.

On May 1, Douglas Welsher, age 39, of Hanlontown, was arrested by Black Hawk County authorities on a Grundy County warrant charging him with probation violation. He is being held in lieu of bond.

On May 1, Brandon Feickert, age 30, of Marion, was arrested by Linn County authorities on a Grundy County warrant charging him with contempt of court. He is being held in lieu of bond.

On April 30, Matthew Watson, age 32, of Cedar Rapids, was arrested in Grundy Center for public intoxication-third offense. He is being held in lieu of bond.

Accidents

On May 2, a vehicle driven by Cade Groeneveld, age 18, of Parkersburg, was eastbound on 130th Street east of H Avenue when it went out of control on a pile of slush, entered the north ditch and rolled. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Groeneveld vehicle was estimated at $10,000.

On May 2, a vehicle driven by Ryan Graveman, age 24, of Wellsburg, was eastbound on D-25 west of J Avenue when it went out of control on the snow covered roads and entered the north ditch where it rolled before coming to a stop. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Graveman vehicle was estimated at $2,000.

On April 30, a vehicle driven by Beverly Miller, age 49, of Whitten, was northbound on S-75 at 320th Street when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Miller vehicle was estimated at $4,000.

On April 29, a tractor driven by Trent Mennenga, age 26, of Wellsburg, was traveling on T-19 north of Highway 20 when the anhydrous bar behind the tractor was over the center line and it collided with a semi driven by Shawn Meyer, age 37, of Parkersburg, which was traveling in the opposite lane of traffic. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Meyer semi was estimated at $3,500.
