"Just Before the Battle Mother - A Visit from a Civil War Soldier" is the topic for July's History on Third Thursday program.
After a brief overview of Iowa's involvement in the Civil War, the audience is introduced to a returning Civil War soldier (played by O. J. Fargo). The audience is encouraged to ask questions and engage in a dialogue with the "soldier" who will stay in character while answering.
The speaker will bring along a full roster of all men who served in and from Iowa in the Civil War to enable the participants to check for ancestors who served. Fargo dresses in full Union Army regalia for the presentation and focuses the presentation on an individual soldier's experience.
O.J. Fargo, in full Union Army regalia, will present the “Just Before the Battle Mother — A Visit from a Civil War Soldier” program at 6:30 p.m. July 18 at the Historical Museum, 202 E. Church St.
The program is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 18 at the Historical Museum, 202 E. Church St. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. This program has been funded by Humanities Iowa, a private, non-profit state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities."
