Fifty-one young girls auditioned for a role in Marshalltown Community Theater's summer production of "Annie."
"What a difficult decision," said Janet Collison, musical director. "We had each girl sing, read lines, perform some spontaneous actions, act and follow directions. After a round of callbacks, we cast six orphans and Olivia Banes as Annie. I wish I could have cast all 51 girls. They each did a great job!"
"The energy and creativity up on stage is infectious," said Tom Laville, artistic director.
Olivia Banes, back row, was cast as Annie in the Marshalltown Community Theater's summer musical production. The six orphans will be, middle row: Ashley Macbeth, Kiersten Kruse, Emma Naylor; front row: Lexia Rau, Averi Bolar, Chloe Wickam. Rehearsals are underway. Opening night is July 26 at the Martha Ellen Tye Theater.
Rehearsals have started and the blocking is underway. The show is full of singing and dancing. There is even a live dog.
"We were very fortunate to be able to cast such a strong group of girls who are just a delight to direct. They are smart, fun and can sing up a storm. Our audiences are in for a real treat," said Karen Roessler, children's director.
Opening night is July 26. Tickets go on sale July 22.
