Rafael Avalos, 511 W. Boone St., made an initial appearance with an interpreter on a harassment-third degree charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days of today's date. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning Aug. 1 until the debt is paid or in lieu of the fine and surcharge he may do 12 hours of community service plus pay the court costs to be completed by Nov. 15.

Accidents

On Tuesday, a car driven by Birja Man Rai, of Des Moines, was westbound in the 800 block of West State Street, stopped at the intersection at Ninth Street and then proceeded into the intersection where it collided with a motorcycle driven by Michael Dean Nablo, 109 N. 21st St., which was traveling south on Ninth Street and attempting to turn east onto State Street. Nablo was possibly injured, but refused treatment. Rai was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. Damage to vehicles was estimated at $2,000 each.
