Where’s your patriotism?

August 7, 2013
Larry J. Larson, Keith Greufe, Pete Dumer and Roger Dirks, Marshalltown , Times-Republican

We veterans of our United States Military Armed Forces have given good portions of our lives defending this country for your freedom and wellbeing.

Many of us continue to voluntarily serve this area through our Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 839 as a community service organization with a wide variety of programs, many dedicated to assisting our fellow veterans and their families. As an example, the Veterans of Foreign Wars/American Legion combined Honor Guard continually serves at our fallen comrades' funerals and as casket bearers for mothers and spouses of our service members.

Now comes VFW Post 839's need for a bit of financial assistance to replace our storm-damaged building on North Center Street with a more modest facility at 107 E. Meadow Lane.

We sincerely appreciate and aim to publicly thank the generous 501C19 Military tax-deductible donations received to date, from many individuals and businesses. However, it is very difficult to understand reluctance of a few of the larger community businesses to help out. For that reason ... where is their patriotism?

It is not too late! We are still receiving contributions large and small and you can still get on the list of patriotic supporters. It is your turn to help us complete our VFW Post building. Thanks.

Please send your donations to: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 839, P.O. Box 1204, 107 E. Meadow Lane Marshalltown, Iowa 50158
