ROSEMOUNT, Minn. - John Krause tallied his team-leading third goal of the season and Julian Pena played a critical role in net down the stretch as the NJCAA Division I No. 15-ranked Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team stopped Anoka-Ramsey 1-0 on Saturday at the Minnesota Kickoff Classic.
Krause scored in the 70th minute on an assist from Juan Carillo, and Pena helped the Tigers (3-1-1) pitch their third shutout of the season.
"Julian was tremendous for us tonight, especially down the stretch," said MCC coach Rafael Martinez. "He made some critical saves in the final five minutes to help preserve the win."
Carillo collected a long pass from midfield and found Krause breaking past Anoka-Ramsey's last defender, and Krause finished inside the far post for the eventual game-winning goal.
"We really brought the intensity today," Martinez added. "This was a well-fought game against a quality team. We suffered some injuries this weekend, but we were able to finish on a positive note and come out with the victory."
Having played three matches in four days, Marshalltown will now get an eight-day break before returning home to face the Iowa State club team on Sept. 8.
