FAYETTE - Nine members of the Upper Iowa football team were honored by the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference on Tuesday, including former North Tama standout Lucas Hefty.
Hefty was named to the NSIC's first team after a stellar season at tight end. He was joined by Upper Iowa teammates Chris Smith and Ethan Douglas as first-teamers.
Hefty caught 65 passes for 846 yards and 10 touchdowns as Upper Iowa's starting tight end. He also ranked fourth among all NSIC receivers in touchdown catches, receiving yards, catches per game and yards per game.
Hefty also added three 2-point conversions this year and in his three years with the Peacocks he now has 113 catches, 1,476 yards and 19 touchdowns.
The Peacock junior also played a valuable role for Smith's success on the ground in 2013. Smith, a junior tailback, set a new single rushing record at Upper Iowa with 1,706 yards and also scored 16 touchdowns on 305 carries.
