Local man shoves, assaults girlfriend

A local man is charged with assault after he allegedly shoved his girlfriend and then attacked her.

Charles R. Scarsbrook Jr., 26, was arrested Friday, on the 500 block of East Olive Street, around 1:30 a.m., after officers received the call from the victim about the alleged incident.

According to police, Scarsbrook was angry with the victim and he threw her on a bed and then climbed on top of her. She reported she couldn't breathe. She had bruises on her arms, shoulders and legs but did not require hospitalization.

Scarsbrook was asleep when police arrived. He was arrested and is charged with serious domestic assault. A child was in a separate room in the house when the incident occurred.

Incidents

On Friday, an employee with K-Mart, 1720 S. Center St., reported the theft of various cosmetics and hygiene products valued at $207.24.

On Jan. 14, Carolyn DeVries, 1007 S. 12th Ave. Apt. #9, reported hit and run damage to the driver side rear quarter panel on a Buick Park Avenue while parked at her residence. Estimated value of damage was $1,511.93.

On Jan. 14, a 16-year-old female juvenile from Marshalltown reported hit and run damage to the driver side front bumper and quarter panel on a Jeep Cherokee while parked at 100 E. Olive St. Estimated value of damage was $1,200.

Citations

On Friday, Sarai Romero Hernandez, 12 N. 12th Ave., was cited for shoplifting from K-Mart.

On Friday, Karla Alejandra Alejos, 408 Sharon Ave., was cited for shoplifting from K-Mart.

On Friday, Letty Barrera Viramontes, 306 N. Center St., was cited for shoplifting from K-Mart.

Arrests

On Sunday, Dale Allen Blackcloud, of Tama, was arrested for open containers prohibited on public ways.

On Friday, Charles Randell Searsbrook Jr., 511 E. Olive St. Apt. #2, was arrested for domestic assault causing bodily injury.

On Thursday, Todd Allan Oldenburger, 10 E. Grant St., was arrested for forgery.

Accidents

On Jan. 14, a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old female from Marshalltown was exiting a parking lot driveway and making a right turn onto the 100 block of East Olive Street when it collided with a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old female which left the scene to be located later in the day. The 16-year-old was possibly injured, but not treated. Damage to the 16-year-old's vehicle was estimated at $1,200 while the 17-year-old's vehicle received an estimated $600 in damage.

Sunday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a gas leak at 205 S. 16th Ave., and six medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1607 Norris Place, 503 Woodland St., 101 S. 12th St., 202 N. Second Ave., 101 New Castle Road, and 3303 S. Center St.

Saturday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a dispatched/cancelled en route to West Iowa Avenue and seven medical assists with the EMS crew to: 204 N. Second St., 202 N. Second Ave., 212 E. State St., 1401 S. 17th Ave., 2206 Maple Blvd., 1401 S. 17th Ave., and 109 E. State St.

Friday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 9 S. Sixth Ave., 3205 Merritt Road, 104 S. Fifth St., and 101 New Castle Road.

Thursday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an outside rubbish fire at 211 Harmony Drive, and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 2206 Maple Blvd., 404 W. Linn St., 1211 W. State St., and 312 W. Main St.

Grundy County Sheriff

Arrests

On Jan. 13, Kimberly Balvanz, age 50, of Steamboat Rock, was arrested by the Iowa Falls Police Department on a Grundy County warrant charging her with failure to appear. She posted bond and was released.

On Jan. 13, Colton Wersinger, age 20, of Wellsburg, was arrested in Reinbeck and charged with driving while license is barred. He was released on promise to appear.

On Jan. 13, Jeanne Ehrig, age 54, of Grundy Center, was arrested in Grundy Center for operating while intoxicated-first offense. She posted bond and was released.

On Jan. 12, Robert McIntire, age 50, of Grundy Center, was arrested in Grundy Center and charged with operating while intoxicated-first offense. He was released on promise to appear.

On Jan. 12, Nicholas Itzen, age 21, of Grundy Center, was arrested in Grundy Center for operating while intoxicated-first offense. He was released on promise to appear.

On Jan. 11, Michael Anderson II, age 37, of Grundy Center, was arrested in Grundy Center on a Black Hawk County warrant charging him with failure to appear. He was released to Black Hawk County authorities.

On Jan. 9, Jerald Dew, age 51, of Wellsburg, was arrested at the Grundy County Sheriff's Office on a warrant charging him with failure to appear. He posted bond and was released.

Ignacio Cruz, age 26, of Marshalltown, was arrested on Highway 20 and charged with driving while license is suspended and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on promise to appear.

Accidents

On Jan. 14, a Jeep driven by Ashley Eickelberg, age 27, of Holland, was exiting Highway 20 off ramp to First Street in Dike when it went through the stop sign onto First Street and collided with a vehicle driven by Stephen Edwards, age 43, of Dike, which was southbound on First Street. No injuries were reported. Eickelberg was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $10,000 each.

On Jan. 10, a car driven by Heidi Ingold, age 41, of Stout, was westbound on 160th Street east of S Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Ingold car was estimated at $2,500.

On Jan. 10, a vehicle driven by Erin Wiebensohn, age 28, of Reinbeck, was northbound on West Street approaching the intersection with Main Street when the driver applied the brakes and began to slide through the stopping area and collided with a car driven by Brett Bengen, age 23, of Reinbeck, which was traveling west on Main Street. No injuries were reported. Wiebensohn was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $3,000 each.

On Jan. 10, a car driven by Kelley Stanley, age 18, of Conrad, was westbound on Grundy Avenue in Conrad approaching the intersection with Washington Street when it began to slide due to the icy road conditions and entered the intersection colliding with a vehicle driven by Paul Wayman, age 24, of Conrad, which was traveling south on Washington Street. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Stanley car was estimated at $3,000 while the Wayman vehicle received an estimated $500 in damage.

On Jan.. 3, a car driven by Hunter Raney, age 18, of Reinbeck, was northbound on Blackhawk Street in Reinbeck when it collided with the rear of a vehicle driven by Marcia Sienknecht, age 44, of Gladbrook, which had slowed to turn right into a parking spot. No injuries were reported. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $3,500 each.
