Man arrested for December assault

A local man who allegedly punched another man in the face several times and chipped his tooth after an argument has been arrested.

Malcom J. Hawk, 18, was arrested Wednesday, for the incident that happened Dec. 29, in the parking lot of The Oasis, 209 E. Main Street.

According to police, the victim was transported to the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center's emergency room after the alleged assault.

After officers determined Hawk's involvement with the assault a warrant was issued for his arrest.

It was discovered Hawk was in the hospital because of an unrelated car accident. Once he was released from the hospital he turned himself in on his warrant.

Hawk is charged with aggravated assault.

William Stuart Wolgamott, of West Des Moines, made an initial appearance on a theft-third degree charge, a prohibited acts charge and a possession of marijuana-first offense charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Feb. 17. Wolgamott is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office within 24 hours to sign a pre-trial release agreement. The court ordered him to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days of today's date.

Robert Lynn Wallace, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. on Feb. 25 in Magistrate Court. He will hire his own counsel. Wallace was released on his own recognizance.

Ernesto Ruiz Silva, 2658 Reed Ave. Apt. I, made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order charge. Marshon Dubbert will continue as counsel. A contempt hearing is set at 11:15 a.m. on Feb. 10. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.

Josh Lyster, address unknown, made an initial appearance through counsel, Chad Frese, on a harassment-third degree charge. He pleaded not guilty.

Carolina Sandoval, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Sandoval pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days of today's date.

Nathaniel Romone French, 713 N. Fourth Ave., made an initial appearance on a interference with official acts charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. on Feb. 25 in Magistrate Court. Aaron Vaughn was appointed as counsel.

Travis James Jordan, 407 N. Third Ave., made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge, a trespass charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set at 9 a.m. on Feb. 11 in Magistrate Court. Aaron Vaughn was appointed as counsel.
