Laquetta Ward, of Tama, made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge, a driving while revoked charge, a speeding charge, a driving under suspension charge and a no valid driver's license charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle her case. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Aug. 4. Ward was released on her own recognizance.
Ashley Gilbert, of Tama, made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. She requested counsel before entering her plea. The court appointed Breanna Weber as counsel. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on Aug. 19 in Magistrate Court. Gilbert was released on her own recognizance.

On Monday, an employee at Hansen Rentals, 503 Player St., reported damage to a central air conditioning unit and a window at 312 N. Third Ave. Estimated value of loss was $1,450.
On Monday, Jacob John Mull, 1509 Norris Place, reported damage to the gas tank on a Ford Ranger pickup while parked at his residence and the theft of seven gallons of fuel. Estimated value of loss was $428.
On Sunday, Tahchelle Marie Thomas, 901 W. Nevada St. Apt. #1, and 407 Plaza Heights Road Apt. B, reported arson damage to a park bathroom at 609 E. Southridge Road. Estimated value of damage was $7,500.
On Tuesday, Nayeli Sierra, 105 1/2 W. Grant St. Apt. A, reported damage to a rug at her residence and the theft of a Nabi tablet. Estimated value of loss was $170.
On Monday, Craig Martin Edgar, 507 W. Southridge Road, reported the theft of cash in the amount of $200 from his mailbox.

On July 8, Max Graves, 705 Fremont St., reported the theft of a Craftsman motor home battery from a 1995 Volkswagen Cabrio while parked at 611 N. Center St. Estimated value of loss was $140.

On Monday, a vehicle driven by Connie Joyce Jamell, 507 W. Merle Hibbs Blvd., was eastbound on Glenda Drive and attempted a left-hand turn onto Second Avenue when it collided with the driver's side corner of a minivan driven by Yeraldin Sanchez, 103 N. Ninth Ave., which was stopped preparing for a right turn. No injuries were reported. Sanchez was cited for driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended. Damage to the Jamell vehicle was estimated at $3,000 while the Sanchez minivan received an estimated $2,500 in damage.
On Monday, a Jeep driven by Ma Guadalupe Martinez Alonzo, 410 Hughes St., was northbound on South Third Avenue attempting to turn left onto East State Street when it turned into the path of a car driven by Laurie Lee Miller, of Beaman, resulting in a collision. Both Miller and Martinez Alonzo were transported to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center with possible injuries. Martinez Alonzo was cited for failure to yield upon left turn and no valid driver's license. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $3,000 each.

On July 10, Mohammed Manuel Portillo, 311 S. Third St., was arrested on a warrant charging him with two counts of harassment, general.
On July 10, Jason Allan Darter, 3202 S. 12th St. Lot #125, was arrested for probation violation.
On Monday, a vehicle driven by Tara Rose Tonsfeldt, of Ames, was westbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the travel portion of the roadway and came to rest on the shoulder near the entrance ramp from Iowa Avenue West to Highway 30. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Tonsfeldt vehicle was estimated at $3,000.
On Monday, a car driven by Juan Padilla, 111 N. Second St., and a pickup driven by Sandra Larue Stoehr, of Beaman, were southbound on Reed Avenue when they came upon a group of four to five cows which entered the roadway from the east ditch. The Padilla car struck one cow causing operable front end damage and the Stoehr pickup struck up to three cows resulting in disabling damage. The owner of the cows, Steve Hubbard, was notified. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Padilla car was estimated at $1,500 while the Stoehr pickup received an estimated $5,000 in damage.
