TCU finishes off season sweep of ’Clones 79-69

FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU earned a season sweep of Iowa State thanks to a 79-69 win over the Cyclones on Saturday at Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena.

TCU (13-11, 5-8) shot 55.2 percent in the second half and converted on 11-of-12 free throws in the fourth quarter to secure its second win over Iowa State this season.

Zahna Medley had 19 points and Veja Hamilton had 14 to pace the Horned Frogs, who had just nine turnovers.

Iowa State (12-12, 4-9) erased an 11-point advantage and took a one-point lead in the third quarter thanks to a 10-0 run early in the third period before the Frogs eventually retook the lead for good at 48-47.

TCU’s short 6-0 spurt put the Cyclones behind for good, and they never got closer than three the rest of the way.

Bridget Carlton set an Iowa State freshman record with her career-high 19 rebounds, and she was one of four Iowa State players to score in double figures with 14. It was her fifth double-double.

Meredith Burkhall led the Cyclones with a career-high 18 points before fouling out. Seanna Johnson finished with 13 points and nine rebounds, and Jadda Buckley added 11 points and six assists in Iowa State’s eighth loss in its last nine games.

Iowa State returns home Wednesday to face a Texas Tech team the Cyclones lost to, 69-66 in overtime in Lubbock, Texas, a month ago.
