Spartans shut out North Butler, 55-0

GREENE – The Grundy Center football team blanked North Butler 55-0 Friday in Class A District 3 action, scoring 48 points in the first half.

Drew Rathe scored twice in the first quarter for the Spartans (5-3, 4-2), first hauling in a 27-yard touchdown pass from Jake Bangasser, and returning a punt 75 yards for a touchdown later in the quarter. Bryce Flater scored twice in the quarter on runs of 44 and 37 yards.

Flater, who finished with 251 yards on 13 carries, scored two more times in the second quarter with touchdown runs of 9 and 19 yards. Bangasser connected with Braidan Buhrow for a 30-yard touchdown pass as well in the second.

Tim Knock capped the scoring with a 16-yard touchdown run in the third. Bangasser finished the game 5-of-9 passing for 85 yards. The Spartan defense recorded three sacks, and an interception from Jared Krausman.

Grundy Center closes out the regular season this Friday hosting West Fork (3-5, 3-3).

Comets downed by No. 3 Denver

DENVER – The BCLUW football fell 49-0 at the hands of Class 1A No. 3 Denver Friday in District 2 play.

Greg Schmitt led the Comets (0-8, 0-6) with 36 yards rushing on eight carries. Brad Barkema threw for 59 on 4-of-13 passing. Jack Garber’s one reception for 37 yards led the team.

BCLUW concludes the season hosting MFL-Mar-Mac (2-6, 1-5) this Friday.

Tigers tripped up by Roland-Story

STORY CITY – The South Hardin football dropped its third game in a row, falling to Roland-Story 35-6 Friday night in Class 2A District 3 play.

Ty Cook found Hunter Nessa for a 19-yard touchdown to account for the lone Tiger (3-5, 2-4) score. Cook led South Hardin in passing with 40 yards, as well as receiving, pulling in a 25-yard pass from Kolten Rewoldt. Jeff Thompson was the Tiger leading rusher with 40 yards on 13 carries.

The South Hardin season concludes this Friday at home against Collins-Maxwell/Baxter (3-5, 3-3).
