MCC scores three of four weekly league honors

Three of the four weekly spring honors from the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference were awarded to Marshalltown Community College athletes, the league announced Wednesday.

MCC sophomore softball players Courtney Fudge and Jordan Carter were honored as the ICCAC’s Division I Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, while Tiger baseball player Juan Carlos Gonzalez was named the ICCAC’s Pitcher of the Week.

Fudge compiled a .714 batting average in a pair of wins against Ellsworth last week in Iowa Falls. She helped the Tiger softball squad close the regular season on a four-game win streak, collecting three hits in the opener against Ellswirth and two more in the nightcap.

This is the second-career ICCAC weekly honor for Fudge, a Des Moines East graduate.

Carter spun a five-hitter in a 10-1, six-inning win against Ellsworth last week. She struck out four, did not walk a batter and allowed one unearned run in the team’s final win of the year.

This marked the second-career weekly softball honor for Carter and the fourth in all sports. The Sigourney native earned the same award twice during her MCC volleyball career.

Gonzalez, a sophomore, gained his third-career ICCAC weekly pitching honor after helping the Tigers take two games at Indian Hills last Friday. Gonzalez struck out six and walked two in five innings, allowing just two hits in an 11-0 shutout win.

The Domincan left-hander leads the ICCAC with 69 strikeouts so far this season. He is 17th in the country with a 12.59 strikeouts-to-walks ratio.
