No. 12 Reivers retaliate to sweep MCC

COUNCIL BLUFFS — The Tigers tossed a handful of pitchers at No. 12 Iowa Western Community College on Sunday, but couldn’t find the right formula, dropping the two-game afternoon 14-7 and 11-3 in the regular-season finale.

Game one saw Adam Kerkove take his first loss of the season (0-1), making it just 2/3 innings, giving up five hits, five earned runs and walked two batters. Duncan Snider made it two more innings before Holt Hunziker went just 1/3, nabbing a strikeout in the third inning.

Joel Rosauer, Cole Baker and Brett Braida each took an inning, giving up a collective three hits and three earned runs.

The Reivers (41-14, 20-3 ICCAC) got nine of their 14 runs in the first inning of the first contest.

Luis Duran was 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and Peyton Stephens was 2-for-4 with five RBIs.

Game two was closer early on, with the Reivers taking a 4-1 lead after the fourth inning. But the kept pouring on the offense against the Tigers (19-30, 8-15 ICCAC).

Stephens (0-3) took the mound in game one, going just two innings, giving up two earned runs and two walks. Gage Ryder came in for an inning of relief in the third, and Tryston Durham made it another 1 1/3 innings. Durham gave up two hits and three earned runs before Greg Glass took over for 2/3 innings.

The most damage was done with Jake Brumbaugh on the mound. He gave up two hits but all four runs against him in the sixth inning were unearned.

The Tigers tallied just six hits from six different players. Diogen Ceballos, John Magnuson and Max MCCay all had RBIs, totally for the Tigers’ three runs.

Marshalltown CC will take on No. 2-seeded Indian Hills in Centerville on Friday at 2 p.m. in the first round of the Region XI Tournament.
