Pfantz, Dunn medal at 2A sectionals

PARKERSBURG — For the second-straight year, Aplington-Parkersburg won the Class 2A sectional meet hosted on its home course at Legend Trail Golf Club, allowing three teams to advance out of its sectional meet.

The Falcons won with 307 strokes, as Dike-New Hartford advanced in second with 313 and South Hamilton took third with a 318. Four area schools did not advance.

West Marshall was fifth with a 337, led by district qualifier Hunter Pfantz’s 2-over-par 74. Pfantz earned a district qualifying bid by being a medalist, tying for third with his 74. He was 2-over 36 on the front nine before coming through with par on the back nine.

Conley Petermeier was second for the Trojans, scoring an 84; Chandler Sponseller posted an 88 and Jake Vawter came through with a 91 and rounded out scoring with a 92 for West Marshall.

South Hardin took sixth with a 339. They were led by Ted Dunn, who ended up qualifying for the district meet with a 5-over 77.

Dunn shot 39 on the front nine and came back with 38 on the back nine.

Hunter Welch was in with an 83, Tom Haywood posted an 85 and Quinton Lake went 47-47 for his 94.

BCLUW was seventh at the sectional meet with a 362, led by Lane Stanley’s 78. Jonny Neff had a 90, Brad Barkema posted 94 and Calob Keller rounded out the Comets’ scorers with an even 100.

East Marshall was in with an eighth-place finish, scoring a 370. The Mustangs had Eric Ommen lead the way with an 89. Dru Boliver went 45-45 to post a 90, Evan Espenscheid had a 94 and Brayden Fahrni scored a 97.

Those teams and individuals qualifying will play at the Fox Ridge Golf Club on Friday at 10 a.m., hosted by Dike-New Hartford.
