SPORTS SHORTS: Earley leads Redhawks past Tripoli

TRAER — The North Tama baseball team was carried by Will Earley’s night on the mound, as he shut out Tripoli 4-0 Wednesday night.

Earley allowed five hits, two walks and six strikeouts in his complete game. Cale Kopriva was 2-for-4 with a run, Cameron Hoeg was 1-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored and Lance Zobel smacked a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the fifth that made it a 3-0 game. Joe Earley was also 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

The Redhawks (1-0) host Gladbrook-Reinbeck tonight.

Colo-NESCO nets first win at GMG

GARWIN — The Colo-NESCO softball team finally got the win that had been eluding it all week in an offensive showcase, topping GMG 15-7 on Wednesday in Iowa Star Conference play.

The Royals (1-2) walked 13 times against GMG (0-1) pitching. Mackenna Ruffcorn got the win, going all seven innings, giving up eight hits, six earned runs and striking out seven. The Royals helped out with eight hits on offense.

Lauryn Hill was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and a double, Kassie Robinson was 2-for-3 with a run and Claire Skinner was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

On GMG’s side, Kelsey Vaverka walked 13, struck out four and gave up 11 hits for six earned runs. Zoe Duncan was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Maesa Groth was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, while Belle Duncan was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
