DES MOINES — It wasn’t the ending the South Tama County girls’ sprint medley had in mind, but there wasn’t a better place to have a senior send off.

Three of the four legs of the STC sprint medley relay finished out their running careers at the Class 3A state track and field meet Saturday morning. Allison Yuska, Lauren Yuska and Shae Slaven all graduate in a couple of weeks and will head to Wartburg.

The relay that also included sophomore Ashton Graham, ran a 1 minute, 54.44 race to place 19th. The relay was hoping for faster, but concluding on the Blue Oval was a nice touch.

“It’s awesome to finish your season at state,” Slaven said. “There’s nothing better you could do.”

Allison took second Friday’s 400-meter hurdles, running a 1:05.04 time, something that’s been a goal for more than a year.

Lauren and Slaven both helped out on other relays like the 18th-place shuttle hurdle relay Thursday (1:09.45) and the 4×100 (19th, 52.11) on Friday. Sabrina Holtz also took sixth in the shot put, throwing 37-5 1/4 as a senior in her second state meet appearance.

“It really means a lot to me that all my hard work during the offseason and during the season, comes to this,” Allison said.

As a team, the Trojans were 14th with 16 team points.
