West Marshall softball places 2 on all-district

AGWSR and BCLUW honor three apiece

Quite a few area athletes populate the all-district softball squads announced earlier this week, and two members of the West Marshall team that took seventh in state earned a spot on the Class 3A Central team.

Trojans senior Kallie Malloy and junior Brooke Snider were both tabbed for the all-district team. This was a second-straight all-district selection for Snider and the first for Malloy.

Malloy dominated on the mound, going 28-3 in her 32 appearances with 260 strikeouts and a 0.84 ERA, both good for third in 3A. Snider finished the season tied for fifth in home runs in 3A with 10, and she had a .459 total average at the plate this year with a .522 on-base percentage.

Joining the West Marshall duo was East Marshall freshman Kodie Hoskey, who went 12-9 in 21 starts toeing the rubber for the Mustangs this season, while striking out 149 and putting up a 2.06 ERA. She also got it done at the plate for East Marshall, hitting a .304 average.

At the 2A level, a trio of BCLUW seniors earned all-district honors in the Northeast. Samantha Ubben, Leah Yantis and Jordyn Beeghley each represent the commets, with Beeghley earning her second-straight selection.

Ubben was 19-5 in 28 starts for BCLUW, striking out 199 on the year and recording a .98 ERA, which was good for fifth in the class. Yantis excelled in the leadoff position for the Comets, hitting seven home runs and recording a .426 average and .530 on-base percentage.

Beeghley hit 13 doubles this year with 39 RBIs and a .364 average.

In 1A, AGWSR earned three all-district spots in the North Central while North Tama placed two on the squad.

Cougars sophomore Taryan Barrick, eighth-grader Makenna Kuper and senior Alana Groninga were selected, joined by Redhawks sophomore Carissa Calderwood and junior Tessa Dvorak.

Barrick went 21-6 on the mound for AGWSR while recording the most strikeouts in 1A with 258. Kuper had a .466 average at the plate for the Cougars, while driving in 42 RBIs and hitting seven triples. Groninga earns her second-straight all-district selection, recording a .377 average and locking down third base defensively for AGWSR.

Calderwood hit .443 for North Tama with a .544 on-base percentage and 32 RBIs. Dvorak was effective on the mound for the Redhawks, striking out 71 and recording a 2.59 ERA in 73 innings pitched. She also hit .529 with a .605 on-base percentage.
