PREP FOOTBALL: GMG football falls to North Tama
GARWIN — The GMG football team lost a Class A Division 5 football game at home on Friday to North Tama, 37-6.
The Wolverines (0-8, 0-6) were led offensively by Brayden Peterson, who had six catches for 72 yards and the lone touchdown of the game.
Kolton Gill finished 8-for-13 with 85 yards through the air, and Brock Baldazo ran for 62 yards on nine carries against the Redhawks (3-5, 2-4).
Blaze Krull was the leading tackler for GMG with six solo tackles and two assists, followed by Cade Bovenmyer with five solo tackles and five assists.
W-SR quarterback spells doom for STC
WAVERLY — The South Tama County football team lost a Class 3A Division 3 game on Friday against Waverly-Shell Rock off the backs of a great performance by Go-Hawk quarterback Luke Velky.
Velky had 224 yards passing for two touchdowns as well as 102 yards rushing and five touchdowns on the way to beating the Trojans (2-6, 1-5) 61-23.
Lane Koch completed eight of 15 passes for STC for 86 yards and a touchdown, while Tanner Probasco ran for 107 yards and a score against Waverly-Shell Rock (7-1, 5-1).
Defensively for the Trojans, Keith Keahna had eight solo tackles and Probasco had seven solo and two tackle assists.
