SPORTS SHORTS: Rebels outlast Redhawks on the road
TRAER — The Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys basketball team earned a non-conference win over North Tama on Saturday, 60-57.
Mason Skovgard had a team-high 22 points for the Rebels (12-4), while Jackson Kiburis had 15 and Tyler Tscherter finished with 13 against the Redhawks (6-11). G-R played without leading scorer Caden Kickbush, who suffered a sprained ankle in Friday’s loss at West Marshall.
Fifth-ranked Hawks hold off Tigers
ELDORA — The South Hardin boys basketball team lost a home matchup against Class 2A No. 5 South Hamilton on Saturday, 63-48.
Cade Spieker had 13 points to lead the Tigers (7-10) while Kevin Rewoldt turned in a double-double of 12 points and 17 rebounds.
Conner Hill and Logan Peters led the Hawks (18-0) with 14 points apiece, while Cole Berg had 12.
G-R girls score sixth win at North Tama
TRAER — The Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls basketball team won a non-conference tilt against North Tama on Saturday, 55-47.
Taylor Gienger had 24 points to lead the Rebels (6-12) and she finished just shy of a triple-double with nine rebounds and nine assists. Megan Swanson was the next-best scorer for G-R with 15 points.
Takoa Kopriva was the top scorer for the Redhawks (2-16) with 16 points, followed by Hope Brubaker with eight.
South Hamilton tips South Hardin girls
ELDORA — The South Hardin girls basketball team narrowly fell to South Hamilton on Saturday, 46-41.
Paige Harrell had 13 points to lead the Tigers (3-14), while Danae Nelson finished with 10.
Marla Grubb led the Hawks (7-12) with a game-high 17 points.
Van Law leads Bobcat JV boys at Ames
AMES — The Marshalltown junior varsity boys basketball team won a road tilt against Ames on Monday, 46-43.
Jaiden Van Law had 20 points to lead the Bobcats in the win, followed by Eric Kapayou with seven and Tyrell Davis and Sunday Arou with six each.
