Hawkeyes outscore Minnesota, 92-84

IOWA CITY — The Iowa women’s basketball team used a balanced attack on Sunday to defeat Big Ten foe Minnesota at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, 92-84.

Five women reached double figures for the Hawkeyes (18-6, 6-5), led by Megan Gustafson recording her 22nd double-double of the season with 25 points and 15 rebounds.

The win, which was revenge for Iowa after losing to the Gophers (17-6, 6-4) 77-72 on Jan. 21, was the second straight for the Hawkeyes and the third one in the last four contests.

Joining Gustafson in double figures were Chase Coley with 17 points, Makenzie Meyer with 16, Alexis Sevillian with 11 and Kathleen Doyle with 10.

Minnesota’s Kenisha Bell had 35 points to lead all scorers, followed by Carlie Wagner with 20 and Cadiva Hubbard with 10.

Drake 84, Missouri St. 65

DES MOINES — Five players scored in double figures for the Drake women’s basketball team in an 84-65 win over Missouri State on Sunday in Missouri Valley Conference play at the Knapp Center.

Drake (16-7, 11-0) was led by redshirt sophomore Sara Rhine, who recorded a team-high 14 points and snagged six rebounds. Junior Nicole Miller had 14 points while redshirt junior Maddy Dean and sophomore Becca Hittner each scored 13 points. Sophomore Brenni Rose rounded out the double-digit scorers for Drake with 12 points.

Senior Aubrey Buckley scored a career-high 22 points for Missouri State (12-10, 8-3).

UNI 71, Southern Illinois 63

CEDAR FALLS — Juniors Ellie Howell and Mikaela Morgan combined for 33 points on Sunday as the Northern Iowa women’s basketball team earned a hard-fought 71-3 victory in Missouri Valley Conference play over Southern Illinois to close out the home weekend.

UNI led by as much as 19 points, but the Salukis fought back to tie the game at 47-47 entering the fourth quarter. The Panthers outscored SIU 24-16 in the fourth, while shooting 77.6 percent in the frame to steal the eight-point win.

Howell led UNI with 17 points on Sunday, while also grabbing five rebounds. Morgan chipped in 16 points, with 12 of those coming in the second half. Kennedy Kirkpatrick finished just outside of double digits with nine points, while Megan Maahs hauled in 11 rebounds.

Southern Illinois’ Nicole Martin led all scorers with 22 points.
