MCC takes Tritons for second time
FORT DODGE — The Marshalltown Community College men’s basketball team headed north on Wednesday night to take on Iowa Central in a rematch from an 86-72 win for the Tigers over the Tritons in November.
This time around it would be a much closer affair, but when the dust settled MCC came away with a tough 91-84 victory.
Mohamed Thiam had a good day shooting, going 10-for-15 from the floor for 28 points to lead the Tigers (16-9), followed by Oscar Kao with 15 and Kelton Edwards with 10 off the bench.
Tray Croft shot early and often for the Tritons (17-7), finishing with 35 points on 11-of-22 shooting to lead all scorers. Kemryn Jenkins was next for Iowa Central with with 17 points.
Marshalltown will return to action on Saturday when it hosts NJCAA No. 2 Indian Hill at the Student Activity Center for an ICCAC Division I showdown. That game will tip off at 7 p.m. after the women’s game, and during the doubleheader MCC will be raising money for men’s soccer head coach Rafael Martinez’s son Pablo, who was diagnosed with cancer in September.
