SPORTS SHORTS: STC’s Musgrave eclipes 1,000 points

TAMA — South Tama County senior Jessica Musgrave became the latest area athlete to reach the 1,000-point mark in her career, as she earned the milestone during the Trojans girls basketball team’s 54-45 win over WaMaC Conference West Division opponent Benton Community to end the regular season on Tuesday.

Musgrave only needed seven points to reach the milestone, but she well exceeded that on senior night, finishing just shy of a triple-double with 24 points, 10 rebounds and nine steals for STC (12-9, 9-5). Musgrave ends the regular season averaging 21.8 points per game while also pulling down a team-high 169 rebounds and finishing third in Class 3A in steals with 117.

Tylese Rosenburg was the next leading scorer for the Trojans against the Bobcats (5-16, 5-9), while Jaelin Berger and Zoee Buffalo each had six.

Rebels claim clash with Montezuma

REINBECK — The Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys basketball team won a non-conference tilt against Montezuma on Tuesday, 49-32.

Caden Kickbush scored 21 points to lead the Rebels (15-5), and he pulled down 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Jackson Kiburis had 11 points as well, while Mason Skovgard finished just shy of a double-double with eight points and 13 boards to help hand the Braves (17-3) their third loss of the season.

Spartans succumb to visiting Nevada

GRUNDY CENTER — The Grundy Center boys basketball team lost its penultimate home game of the season on Tuesday by falling to Nevada, 81-50.

Sage Klar and Joe Johnson each finished with 12 points to lead the Spartans (3-16), while Drew Rathe had nine in the loss. Johnson also hauled in a team-high nine rebounds.

Trent Stahl was the top scorer in the game with 21 points for the Cubs (10-10), while Om’Unique Wilkerson had 20 and Luke Merfeld had 11.
