Warren gets 200th win as Panthers sweep Redbirds

CEDAR FALLS — The Northern Iowa women’s basketball team overpowered Illinois State with a 66-48 victory as the Panthers capped a season sweep of the Redbirds.

With the victory, Panthers head coach Tanya Warren earned her 200th career victory.

On the win, Warren said she owes all her success to the people who have surrounded her throughout her career.

“It takes a village. I’ve been extremely blessed to be surrounded by amazing people,” Warren said following the win. “Coach Brad Nelson has been with me for every single one of them, coach KK Armstrong has played for a lot of them and has now come back to be a part of it as a coach. Coach Steven Fennelly has also been a fantastic addition to our staff.”

Sophomore Megan Maahs propelled UNI (14-12, 10-5) to the win on the back of a career-high 18 points on Friday. She shot an efficient 7-for-11 form the floor while going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.

The Panthers shot a season-high 52.5 percent from the floor against Illinois State (13-14, 7-9). Ellie Howell and Kennedy Kirkpatrick each also finished in double figures with 13 and 10 points respectively.

Viria Livingston had 13 points to lead the Redbirds, while Hannah Green finished with 11.

UNI hosts Bradley for its final regular-season home game at the McLeod Center on Sunday, starting at 2 p.m.
