Comet boys win 3 races at NICL Indoor

WAVERLY — The BCLUW boys track team had the most area wins at the North Iowa Cedar League Indoor Conference Meet on Thursday at Wartburg College as the Comets took home frist in three events.

Jack Garber and Troy Dolphin both won individual events for BCLUW, with Garber taking first in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.76 seconds and Dolphin winning the 200 with a time of 23.82 seconds. The 4×400 relay team of Garber, Dolphin, Logan Mann and Connor Thompson also placed first for the Comets with a time of 3:39.03.

Not to be outdone, AGWSR finished atop the standings in two events, with Alec Stahl winning the 800 with a time of 2:06.34 and Dalton June tying for the lead in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 10 inches.

Sawyer Bowen matched that height for Grundy Center, giving the Spartans their only event win.

South Hardin rounded out the area event winners with ZaKee Newman winning the 3,200 with atime of 10:30.45, nearly seven seconds ahead of Lake LeBahn from Union Community in second. Newman also finished in second in the 1,600.

Gage Hulin was the top individual placer for East Marshall with his third-place finish in the long jump, while the 4×800 relay team of Cade Curphy, Tyler DeBondt, Josh Terrones and Eli Anderson and the distance medley relay of Zane Johnson, Austin Elliot, Logan Nicholson and Curphy both took third as well.
