Drake trio leads MVC first team

ST. LOUIS — Drake women’s basketball sophomore Becca Hittner was one of three repeat selections on the all-Missouri Valley Conference first team, joining former Bulldog standout Lizzy Wendell as the only players in school history to earn first-team accolades in each of their first two seasons.

Hittner was one of three Drake players selected to the 11-player all-MVC first team, joined by junior Sammie Bachrodt and sophomore Sara Rhine. Bachrodt was an honorable mention on last year’s Missouri Valley squad.

Northern Iowa sophomore Megan Maahs was the Panthers’ lone representative on the all-MVC first team, and she joined Bachrodt as members of the five-player All-Defensive Team.

Hittner finished second in the conference in scoring average at 15.7 points per game, first in 3-point shooting percentage (44) and third in field-goal percentage (49.2). She was last year’s MVC Freshman of the Year.

Bachrodt is averaging 10.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.0 steals per game. She leads the MVC with 117 assists and is second with 60 steals, earning her second-straight All-Defensive Team selection in the process.

Rhine gained her first all-conference accolade after averaging 15.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.

Maahs, who last year was on the All-Freshman squad, has averaged a double-double of 10.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game for Northern Iowa. She leads the Valley with 12 double-doubles.

Drake junior Maddy Dean and UNI junior Ellie Howell both earned all-MVC honorable mention.
