SPORTS SHORTS: Bobcats’ Huffman, Reeder get top-10

PELLA — The Marshalltown boys track team headed to the Central College Indoor meet on Friday and two Bobcats individually came away with top-10 finishes.

Ryan Huffman earned fourth place in the high jump by clearing 5-foot-8, and Tyler Reeder finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.9 seconds. Both marks were personal bests for the boys.

Also placing in the top 10 were all three relay teams, with the 4×200 relay of Braden Bethke, Wyatt Himes, Noah Devenney and Huffman taking fifth with a time of 1:40.44, the 4×800 team of Sam Irwin, Conner Beaty, Brent Johnson and Bennett O’Hare finishing fifth with a time of 8:54.56, and the 4×400 team of Irwin, O’Hare, Beaty and Himes placing sixth with a time of 3:46.21.

Other top finishes for Marshalltown include Jordan Anderson and Lucas Duff placing 15th and 21st respectively in the shot put and Gabe Wyant placing 35th in the 200. In total, 16 Bobcats had a personal best performance in the meet.

Mustangs, Warriors run at Wartburg

WAVERLY — The East Marshall and Meskwaki boys track teams were in action at Wartburg College on Tuesday and both teams earned some top-10 finishes.

The Mustangs placed in the top-3 in three events, with Justin Ridout taking the highest individual placing with a second-place performance in the Shot Put with a throw of 52 feet, 3.5 inches. Zane Johnson was the next best individual finish, taking third in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.36 seconds while the 4×800 team of Seth Kilborn, Cam Hungerford, Cade Curphy and Josh Terrones placed second with a time of 8:58.62.

For the Warriors, Taurice Grant had the highest placing by taking ninth in the 400 with a time of 56.24 seconds, while Taté Bear placed 13th in the high jump with a vault of 5-6.
