Connor McCaffery gets basketball scholarship

IOWA CITY — University of Iowa head men’s basketball coach Fran McCaffery announced on Wednesday that freshman Connor McCaffery has been given a scholarship beginning with the 2018-19 academic year.

“Connor went through a lot his freshman year but remained positive despite suffering physical and health setbacks,” Fran said. “Although he did not play in many games last season, he was an important part of this team on and off the court and will continue to be the next four years.”

Connor was limited in his first season playing with the Hawkeyes, held to short minutes in four games this season due to an injury and multiple other health setbacks. He has four years of men’s basketball eligibility remaining after his hardship waiver petition was approved by the Big Ten Conference last month.

Connor won the Class 4A state tournament as a senior with Iowa City West.
