MCC softball eliminated on first day of regionals

OTTUMWA — The Marshalltown Community College softball team’s season came to a close on Friday in the first round of the NJCAA Region XI Division I Softball Tournament.

The Tigers (14-23) started the tournament against No. 14 Indian Hills, losing to the Warriors 10-3. MCC was held scoreless for the first four innings of the contest, falling behind 7-0 in that time, but three runs in the top of the fifth put the score within shouting distance until Hills closed the door with two more in the fifth and one in the sixth. Chasity Jordan drove in all three runs with a three-run home run in the fifth, one of three hits for the Tigers in game one.

Game two didn’t start any better, as Marshalltown faced off with No. 19 Iowa Western in the first round of the consolation bracket. The Reivers scored five runs in the second and four in the third while MCC had nobody cross the plate on the way to a 9-0 loss in five innings to close the season.

Once again the Tigers only managed three hits in the loss, compared to 11 by Iowa Western. Shaena Robinson, Saydee Terrell and Anna Marie Armstrong recorded the three hits.
