MHS girls track places 6th in Ames

AMES — After a frustrating start to the season with many weather cancellations, the Marshalltown girls track team finally got out for some competition at the Little Cyclone Invite on Tuesday.

The Bobcats placed sixth in the meet with 51.5 team points, 11.5 points higher than Newton in seventh.

Grace Metzger had the best placing of the day for MHS, finishing second in the discus with a throw of 108 feet, 10 inches. Jill Podhajsky finished just behind Metzger in third place with a distance of 107-5, and Metzger finished fifth in the shot put.

Regan Mazour also got it done in the field events, taking third in the high jump with a vault of 4-10 and she placed seventh in the long jump with a distance of 14-7 1/4.

Marshalltown had the most luck in the sprint events on the track, as Kierra Gardner placed sixth in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Sara Trowbridge placed just behind Gardner in the 200 in seventh.

The 4×100 team of Gardner, Trowbridge, Alyvia Chadderdon and Mazour placed sixth while the 4×200 team of Gardner, Trowbridge, Mazour and Erica Johnson placed fifth.
