South 6th Street park named a ‘Field of Dreams’

The Marshalltown South 6th Street Softball Complex has been named a “Field of Dreams” by the Chicago 16 Inch Softball Hall of Fame.

The 6th Street Complex is the first complex outside of the Chicago area to be honored and the 11th total field to receive the honor. An award noting this accomplishment will be presented at the yearly Chicago Hall of Fame awards banquet that takes place on Saturday in Oak Brooks, Ill.

The hall of fame states that the Field of Dreams honors those diamonds and parks and recreation departments that have provided the 16 inch players quality of fields, leagues and tournaments.

The 6th Street Complex has hosted 10 Amateur Softball Association National Championships since 1980. The Complex also hosts the yearly Clincher Classic tournament in early June, which brings in great teams from the Chicago area and around the country.
