Ashley Allen and Mariah Fritz

Former East Marshall High School teammates Ashley Allen and Mariah Fritz have both been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District 8 Softball First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Allen, a junior catcher at Simpson College, and Fritz, a junior pitcher at Central College, both received the recognition after compiling a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher during academic year.

Allen carries a 3.90 GPA majoring in sports administration with a minor in coaching, while Fritz has a 3.75 GPA as an integrated studies major.

The former Mustang batterymates are two of 12 players named to the District 8 team, which includes student-athletes attending NCAA Division III institutions across 21 states and Canada. Both will be considered for Academic All-America status.

Allen, a Laurel native, was an honorable mention all-Iowa Conference selection this spring for the Storm after earning second-team honors a year ago. She tied a school record with 18 doubles while hitting .393 with one home run and 30 RBIs. She was recently named to the NFCA All-Midwest Region second team as well.

Fritz finished the season with a 12-7 record and a 2.51 earned run average across 131 1/3 innings pitched for the Dutch.
