MHS softball falls to Newton

The Marshalltown softball team hosted Newton for its home and season opener on Tuesday, falling to the Cardinals 16-5 in five innings.

McKaylee Dawson started the game for the Bobcats (0-1), going 4 2/3 innings while giving up six earned runs off seven hits and striking out one.

Regan Mazour and Alyvia Chadderdon each went 3-for-4 in the loss, with Mazour scoring a run and Chadderdon batting three runs in.

Next up MHS hosts Ottumwa for a doubleheader on Thursday, starting at 5 p.m.
