Spartan boys golf heading to state

NASHUA — The Grundy Center boys golf team earned a trip to the state championship next Friday and Saturday after a win in the Class 1A Boys District meet at Nashua Town & Country Club.

The Spartans shot a 324 as a team, 17 strokes ahead of Bishop Garrigan in second.

Jake Bangasser was the top Grundy Center placer, finishing as the meet runner-up with a 5-over par 75. Matthew Sternhagen placed sixth with an 80, while Andy Cox shot an 81, Nolan Freeman an 88, Travis Kuester a 90 and Tanner Appel a 95.

Alex Hames from AGWSR also earned state qualification individually with a 79, good enough for fourth in the district.

BCLUW came away with sixth place in the final team standings after shooting a 359. Lane Stanley and Brad Barkema both shot 89 to lead the Comets, while Jonny Neff carded a 90 and Keegan Rhinehart shot 91.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck ended 11th of 12 with a 384 team score, led by Matt Johannsen’s 89. Walker Thede shot a 93, Mason Skovgard shot 97 and Tyson Creswell carded a 105.
