SPORTS SHORTS: GC/G-R soccer rolls over Cadets, 5-2

REINBECK — The Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys soccer team earned a 5-2 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden on Monday in its final game of the regular season.

Walker Thede had a hat trick to lead the Rebels (8-4), while Eli Thede recorded the other two goals in the victory. GC/G-R had 20 total shots against the Cadets (6-9), with the Thedes combining for 14 of those.

Bryce Shick played 77 minutes in goal for the Rebels and recorded six saves, then Cullen Eiffler played the final three minutes and recorded two saves.

Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck will now prepare for the first round of the Class 1A Substate 2 tournament, where they will face off against Denver next Monday, starting at 6:30 p.m. in Denver.

GC/G-R girls go 1-2 in weekend tourney

WAVERLY — The Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls soccer team finished 1-2 over the weekend at the Waverly-Shell Rock tournament, beating Independence but losing to Class 2A No. 9 Spencer and Bondurant-Farrar.

In the 1-0 win against the Mustangs, Jacque Kuester had the lone goal, converting one of her five shots on goal. Taylor Gienger had seven shots on goal in the win, as did Belen Ellenberger. Carsen Hamann played all 60 minutes in goal for the Rebels (6-6), recording nine saves in the shutout.

In the 4-1 loss to the Tigers, Gienger had the lone goal off of three shots on goal, while Hamann recorded 10 saves in the loss.

In the 3-0 loss to the Bluejays, Ellenberger and Cora Saak led the way with two shots on goal, while Makenzie Martens played all 60 minutes in goal, recording four saves.

STC/EM girls go 0-3 at W-SR tourney

WAVERLY — The South Tama County/East Marshall girls soccer team lossed all three matches at the Waverly-Shell Rock tournament on Saturday.

In the 4-0 loss to Class 2A No. 5ADM, Olivia Terrones had the lone shot on goal for the Trojans (4-12), while Kacee Hamor and Athena Schrock split time in goal. Schrock had three saves and gave up three goals, while Hamor had two saves and one goal allowed.

In the 9-0 loss to Class 1A No. 2 Center Point-Urbana, STC/EM didn’t have any shots on goal while Allison Wooldridge had a hat trick for the Stormin’ Pointers.

In the 2-0 loss to Hudson, Emily Terrones was the lone Trojan to put up a shot, while Schrock went all 60 minutes between the posts with seven saves.
