Trojans win St. Edmond tournament

FORT DODGE — The West Marshall baseball team had to deal with weather delays and scorching heat on Monday in the Fort Dodge St. Edmond Memorial Day Tournament, but neither their opponents nor the weather could keep the Trojans from coming home victorious.

West Marshall (5-1) started its tournament off with a win over Newell-Fonda in the morning game, taking down the Mustangs 6-3.

Cameron Bannister pitched the complete game for the Trojans, allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out four and walking one.

Bannister also helped the offensive attack, going 3-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs. Alex Dickey had a two-RBI double in the win, while Parker Hulbert went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Game two got off to a bit of a rocky start, with Jake Stojohann allowing five runs, two earned, in the first inning and a half after walking five batters, but the Trojans would go provide enough run support to finish with a 16-5 victory over the host Gaels in five innings.

Kinnick Christensen got the win on the mound, filling for Stojohann for the rest of the 3 1/3 innings and allowing no runs off two hits and one walk while striking out four.

Bannister once again was effective at the plate, recording two hits and five RBIs, including a bases-clearing triple. Not to be outdone, Dickey had three hits and four RBIs, while Ryan Reyerson also had three hits with two RBIs.

Up next the Trojans travel north to take on AGWSR in their NICL West Division opener tonight, starting at 7:30 p.m.
