SPORTS SHORTS: Mustangs surpass South Tama, 9-2
LE GRAND — The Class 2A No. 13 East Marshall softball won a non-conference game against South Tama on Friday, 9-2.
Reagan McIlrath got the win for the Mustangs (15-4), pitching a complete game while allowing 10 hits and two runs and striking out 10.
Ashlynn Ellenbecker took the loss for the Trojans (1-16), allowing 16 hits and nine runs in six innings pitched.
Maria Rasmusson had a perfect night at the plate for East Marshall, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while Ellen Hungerford went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs and a home run and Hannah Birks went 3-for-4 with a run. Madison Farrington also hit a dinger along with Hungerford.
Morgan Haughey finished 3-for-3 with a run for South Tama, while Kenze Smith had a 3-for-4 night.
Redhawks run win streak to 7 games
BAXTER — The North Tama baseball team extended its win streak to seven straight on Friday with a 16-7 victory over Iowa Star Conference foe Baxter.
The Redhawks (12-3) scored nine runs in the first inning to jump out to a huge lead, then added four more in the fifth to quel any hopes of a Bolt comeback.
Izach Hensen picked up the win for North Tama, pitching 3 2/3 innings to start the game while allowing nine hits and seven runs, only five earned. Parker Hulme finished the final 3 1/3 innings, allowing only two hits and now runs while striking out six.
The Redhawks had 12 total hits in the win, with Hulme going 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored, and Skyler Staker went 1-for-3 went three RBIs and three runs scored. Hale Hulme and Tate Payne both also went 2-for-3 with three runs in the win.
