North Tama doubles up on Dunkerton, 10-5

ALBURNETT — The North Tama baseball team rallied from an early deficit to overtake Dunkerton for a 10-5 victory in Tuesday’s Class 1A District 6 quarterfinal.

The Raiders (9-13) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before North Tama (16-9) scored all of its 10 runs between the third and fifth frames.

The Redhawks came away with just five hits but capitalized on seven walks issued by Dunkerton pitching. Hale Hulme led the way for North Tama, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. He also earned the win on the mound, allowing five runs — one earned — on six hits and two walks over six innings, striking out eight. Lance Zobel walked one in a scoreless inning of relief.

Skyler Staker doubled and drove in three runs, while leadoff batter Tate Payne was 1-for-2 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a stolen base. Tyler Morrison singled and scored three runs.

North Tama will face either Hudson or East Buchanan in Thursday’s district semifinal at 5 p.m. in Alburnett.

Ankeny Christian 7, Colo-NESCO 1

ST. MARYS — The Colo-NESCO baseball team managed just three hits and fell to Ankeny Christian Academy, 7-1, in Tuesday’s Class 1A District 12 quarterfinal.

The Royals wrapped up an 11-12 campaign despite leading 1-0 after two innings. Philip Bower’s bases-loaded groundout got Jacob Clatt home, but that was all the damage done.

Ankeny Christian Academy (17-8) scored all of its runs with two outs, four of them in the third inning and three more in the fourth.

Brayden Jacobs led the Eagles at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double, a triple and four RBIs.

Kelly Gray, Bryce Niemeyer and Clatt accounted for Colo-NESCO’s three singles in the season-ending loss. Niemeyer was tagged for six runs — five earned — on eight hits over 3 2/3 innings. He struck out two.

Ankeny Christian Academy will meet Lynnville-Sully in Thursday’s 5 p.m. district semifinal back in St. Marys.

Don Bosco 10, Grundy Center 0, 5 innings

GRUNDY CENTER — Don Bosco dropped six runs on Grundy Center in the top of the fifth inning and the Dons eliminated the host Spartans from the Class 1A District 5 bracket with a 10-0, five-inning victory on Tuesday night.

Mason Denton tossed a two-hitter for Don Bosco (22-8), striking out six while walking none in going all five innings on the mound. Cael Frost went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs to lead the Dons.

No statistics were available for Grundy Center (3-20) as of press time.

Don Bosco will face AGWSR (13-4) in Thursday’s first district semifinal in Reinbeck, starting at 5 p.m.
