MCC volleyball sweeps Statesmen, goes to 6-0

OSKALOOSA — The Marshalltown Community College volleyball team earned its sixth-straight win to start the season on Wednesday by defeating the William Penn University junior varsity in straight sets, 25-22, 25-15, 25-16.

Freshman Elena Yee was the top attacker for the Tigers (6-0), finishing the night with 12 kills on 19 attempts. Chiara Mottola followed with eight kills on 11 attempts, while Marija Egic had seven and South Tama County graduate Sadie Smith had five kills.

Jelena Dukic again had a strong night setting with 33 assists, and Halee Pedro once again led defensively with 11 digs. Yee also was in double digits in digs with 10, contributing both offensively and defensively.

MCC will look to match last season’s 7-0 start tonight when it travels to take on the Grand View University junior varsity in Des Moines, starting at 7 p.m.
