Johnston’s pressure corners ’Cats

Emma Younkin

JOHNSTON — Four players scored in double figures and the Class 5A No. 2 Johnston girls’ basketball team dropped Marshalltown 77-17 on Tuesday night in CIML action.

The visiting Bobcats (0-3), playing their second game in as many nights without senior guard Alyvia Chadderdon, were limited to no more than six points in each quarter.

Maya McDermott and Regan Nesheim scored 14 points apiece to lead the Dragons (3-1). Reserves Anna Gossling and Zoey Buchan finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively, to help Johnston finish off the win.

The Dragons — who totaled 21 steals — jumped out to a 12-0 lead before the Bobcats got on the scoreboard, and Johnston held a 24-2 lead after the opening stanza. It was 49-8 at halftime.

Marshalltown junior Emma Younkin scored five points to lead the Bobcats, while Erica Johnson, Madi Finch and Gabby Himes had four points apiece to round out the team’s scoring.

The Bobcats go on the road Friday to face No. 13 Des Moines East, while Urbandale visits the Roundhouse on Saturday.
