SPORTS SHORTS: Musgrave’s triple-doubles power STC

TAMA — The South Tama County girls basketball team earned its biggest win of the season so far on Tuesday with a 71-41 drubbing of WaMaC Conference West Division foe Vinton-Shellsburg.

Jessica Musgrave had a season-high 28 points for the Trojans (4-5), and she had a triple-double with 13 rebounds and 10 steals. That was Musgrave’s second-straight triple-double, as she went for 20 points, 12 rebounds and 15 steals against West Delaware in the previous win.

Zoee Buffalo and Jaelin Berger each had 12 points to follow Musgrave.

Lucy Howes-Vonstein led the Vikings (1-8) with 11 points.

Mustangs beat G-R for third-straight W

LE GRAND — The East Marshall girls basketball team won its third-straight game on Tuesday by defeating NICL West Division foe Gladbrook-Reinbeck, 40-27.

At halftime the Mustangs (5-5, 2-3) had a 21-18 lead on the Rebels (3-5, 1-4) but East Marshall pulled away in the third by outscoring G-R 9-3 in the frame.

Olivia Terrones had 23 points to lead the Mustangs, her second-straight 20-plus point effort. Melinda Puumala chipped in 10 points and Terrones and Puumala each had a team-high six rebounds.

Taylor Gienger paced the Rebels with 11 points, followed by Reagan Skovgard with six. Saari Kuehl had a game-high 14 rebounds.

South Tama boys defeated by Vikings

VINTON — The South Tama County boys basketball team lost a WaMaC Conference West Division game to Vinton-Shellsburg on Tuesday, 63-25.

Keith Keahna, Lane Lekin and Tyrin Lasley all had five points to lead the Trojans (0-8) and Keahna had a team-high nine rebounds.

Keegan Thompson led the Vikings with 19 points (3-3) and Isaac Wiley followed with 10.
