VALPARAISO, Ind. — The Drake women’s basketball team scored a whopping 56 points in the paint en route to an 88-62 victory over Valparaiso in Friday’s Missouri Valley Conference contest.

The Bulldogs (17-5, 9-1) led wire-to-wire and dominated in every facet of the game. None of Drake’s starters played more than 24 minutes, and the team had 29 assists on 36 made field goals.

Becca Hittner notched 23 points to lead all players, while Sara Rhine had a double-double of 19 points and a game-high 10 rebounds in just 22 minutes of court time.

Sammie Bachrodt added 15 points, seven assists and three steals for the Bulldogs, while reserve Nicole Miller had six points, four boards and a career-high eight assists.

Grace Hales and Ella Ellenson both made five 3-pointers for Valparaiso, leading the Crusaders (6-16, 2-8) with 17 and 15 points, respectively.

Drake led 45-20 at the half and eased its way to the win.

The Bulldogs remain out on the road for Sunday’s 1 p.m. game against Loyola in Chicago.
