Henson medals again in narrow Marshalltown loss

Amber Henson

PLEASANT HILL — Marshalltown freshman Amber Henson made her way to the front of the pack for the second night in a row, but the Bobcat girls golf team was narrowly defeated by host Southeast Polk in a CIML Iowa Conference dual.

The Rams used a balanced attack to take down the Bobcats, 194-196, at Copper Creek Golf Course, dropping Marshalltown to 0-3 overall and in conference play. Southeast Polk’s four counting scores all fell between 47 and 54, while the Bobcats’ scores ranged from Henson’s 39 to a 57.

Henson’s 4-over-par medalist round included three pars, five bogeys and a birdie on the 106-yard par-3 fifth hole. The eight-stroke victory marked her third gold medal in six meets this season.

Kyra Feldman came in with a 48, Emma Younkin shot a 52 and Brynn Van Buren’s 57 finished out the scoring for Marshalltown. Norah Wilson added a 59 while Taylor Naughton closed it out with a 68.

Jenna Vignovich led Southeast Polk with the runner-up medalist round of 47, followed by a 48 from Isabelle Juhler, Rylie Kruse’s 51 and Peyton Weidner’s 54.

The Bobcats close out a busy week with Thursday’s Linda Bloom Invite on Thursday at the American Legion Memorial Golf Course. Twelve teams visit Marshalltown for the 10 a.m. tournament.
